Kirby's Sandwich Shop
About This Spot
Stepping into Kirby’s Sandwich Shop is like slipping back into a gentler, slower rhythm of small-town life. Nestled on North Kingshighway in Sikeston, this unpretentious diner carries the quiet charm of a place where time has unfolded steadily, layering familiar faces with decades of shared stories. The steady hum of conversation blends seamlessly with the clatter from the kitchen, while the timeless sight of spinning stools at the counter invites you to linger, savoring not just a meal but a moment.
The air here is warm and comfortable, filled with the smells of grilled patties, crispy fries, and toasted bread. The pace is easygoing — a place where locals gather for an honest bite that’s as nourishing to the spirit as it is to the appetite. Service is attentive without rush, reflecting a genuine care that comes from years of welcoming regulars and newcomers alike.
Kirby’s flavors don’t shout but settle in quietly, from the satisfying heft of a double-patty Kirby Burger with caramelized onions to the humble crunch of perfectly fried okra or cheese balls. These are the kinds of dishes that pair well with the unhurried moments spent chatting across a table or watching the familiar rhythm of a small town gently unfold around you.
Behind the counter or at an old-fashioned booth, you feel part of an enduring tradition — a spot that hasn’t changed much, and perhaps for good reason. Kirby’s is the kind of place where memories sit alongside every glass of crunchy ice in your soda, evoking a sense of belonging and the simple joys of a well-crafted meal shared in good company.

Small-town diner that probably hasn't changed in 40 or 50 years. Definitely all locals eating there. They even still have the spinning stools at the counter. I had the specialty, which is the Kirbyburger - two patties with grilled onions. Both Burger and Fries were great. The onion rings were very good also. Love the crunchy ice for the soda, because I can chew it without breaking my teeth. Gave five stars for atmosphere because even though it was old and basic, it has a wonderful home town feel. It's in the historic downtown, and if you drive north you are immediately in the historic homes District with lots of big beautiful old homes with lots of character. We drove around for probably 15 minutes after we ate, enjoying all the beautiful homes and Landscaping.

Our experience at curvies was amazing. Staff was very friendly and polite, just a comfortable atmosphere. The food was good. I had to double cheeseburger "Kirby Burger".
